Chinese car maker Geely has announced that the first batch of its low-cost and best-selling EX2 electric hatchbacks have arrived in Australia, adding to the growing number of affordable electric cars in the local market.
The EX2 has been Geely’s and China’s best-selling car in its domestic market, and last week revealed that it will be offered in two variants in Australia, starting off at $26,490 before on-road costs. It will be competing against the likes of the MG4 Urban and the GAC Aion UT.
The first batch of Geely EX2s has started to arrive at local dealerships, according to the update from the brand, which shared multiple pictures of the cars being loaded and secured onto the roll-on-roll-off (RORO) ship.
A number of readers responded with their own test drive experiences. “Nice little machine and surprisingly zippy, solid on the road,” wrote Adam R on the Geely EX2 Owners Facebook group shared:
Another member, Steve G, said: “Just came back from my very short test drive. They had quite a few different cars there with more in the workshop getting prepped. Saw every colour except for pink.”
The EX2 will come with two variants, with the entry-level Complete starting from $26,490 before on-road costs. The Inspire variant bumps that up to $30,990 before on-road costs but adds a bigger battery and more range.

The entry-level EX2 Complete is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 60 kW of peak power and up to 150 Nm of torque. This variant comes with a small 35 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, putting out a driving range of up to 252 km on the WLTP cycle.
The top-spec Inspire variant boosts those figures by having an upgraded motor which puts out 85 kW of power. It will also come with a larger 47 kWh LFP battery with an improved range of up to 345 km.
DC charging speed is 60 kW for the Complete and 80 kW for the Inspire are on offer, while AC charging is capped to 6 kW, coming under what’s offered in Australia’s cheapest EV, the BYD Atto 1, which comes with 11 kW AC charging as standard.
