Car giant Geely confirmed last December that its best-selling electric car, the low-cost Geely EX2 electric hatchback, is headed for the Australian market in the second half of 2026.
This model, likely to be priced at around $30,000 in Australia, has now been spotted on the ROVER approval-for-sale register and is offered in three variants.
The rear-wheel-drive variants of the EX2 include an entry variant with 60 kW and 2 premium variants with 85 kW.
The 4.14-metre-long hatchback will be available with a height of 1.58 metres and a running clearance of 162 mm.
All variants will weigh between 1.29 and 1.37 tonnes, depending on the motor, battery and powertrain configurations.
There is no towing capacity for the EX2, with a braked towing mass of 0 kg listed in the ROVER approval.
Battery specifications for this model have not been made available as part of the approval works.

For reference, in Thailand, the larger 40.16 kWh CATL-supplied Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery pack delivers a range of 395 km. It is likely to be closer to 320 km on the locally used WLTP cycle.
This would be welcomed by many, as the brand aims to sustain this model’s success after it became China’s best-selling car in 2025, with over 465,000 units sold.
In April, Geely Australia shared early specs and a pre-order offer for the EX2 at the Melbourne Motor Show. Standard specs for the Australian-delivered Geely EX2 were also shared and will include:
- Rear-wheel drive platform with additional frunk storage
- Multi-link independent rear suspension
- GEA platform, allowing smarter optimisation of space
- Liquid-cooled battery pack
Six colours will be available to local buyers. These include standard colour White and premium colours such as Green, Grey, Beige, Pink, and Silver.
The EX2 is currently sold in China as the Geely Xingyuan and is built on the same Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) platform as Geely’s popular EX5 electric SUV, which has sold over 8,000 units locally since its March 2025 launch.
Since the brand’s launch, the Australian division announced this week that it has delivered its 10,000th car, highlighting strong demand for its products ahead of the EX2’s arrival.
We expect the EX2 to be a great-value electric option if the price is set at $30,000 or less. That’d compete with the BYD Dolphin, the more recently launched MG4 Urban EV, and the GAC Aion UT.
Details on the powertrain specs and pricing will be confirmed closer to the hatchback’s launch in Q3 2026.
