GWM says its much-anticipated first shipment of the Ora 5 electric SUV has officially arrived in Australia, with deliveries expected into dealerships in the coming days.

The company announced pricing for the Ora 5 in April, saying the small electric SUV would start from $33,990 drive-away when it arrived in showrooms inJune.

At the same time, the brand also revealed that it has received almost 3,000 expressions of interest since the brand officially unveiled the model at the Melbourne Motor Show in 2026.

ā€œIt’s no secret that we’ve been keen to add a fully electrified SUV to the range for some time and the Ora 5 SUV is the perfect model to kick start GWM’s EV ambitions,”G WM Australia Chief Operating Officer, John Kett, said in a statement.

ā€œThe philosophy at GWM is quite simple – to give more Australians access to smarter, safer and better-equipped vehicles at a price they can afford, and the Ora 5 certainly meets that criteria.

“The Ora 5 SUV’s class-leading technology and segment-leading pricing is a statement of GWM’s intent to Drive to Top 5 in the EV segment across the ANZ region.ā€

The Ora 5 is a bigger car than the original Ora EV which it will replace in GWM’s local electric line up. The original Ora was an affordable electric model that saw hundreds of new owners to the brand over the years.

This larger SUV is expected to win thousands of buyers to the brand and will be powered by a 150 kW front-mounted motor which feeds a 58.3 kWh LFP battery.

This battery will deliver up to 430 km of WLTP range, making it quite competitive with other small SUV offerings and even doing better than the popular BYD Atto 2, which has 345 km of WLTP range.

DC fast charging is rated at up to 120 kW on this model which can charger the battery from 30-80% in around 20 minutes.

The Ora 5 also includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing it to supply up to 6 kW of external power.

The GWM Ora 5 comes with a 7-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an 8-year/unlimited-kilometre on the high-voltage battery pack. The GWM brand now has 127 dealers across the country, helping this car reach more buyers than the original Ora.
