The first deliveries of Teslaās new six-seater Model Y L have begun, just a month after the new variant was made available to order on Teslaās Australian configurator.
The Model Y L has almost 14 per cent more range than any other Model Y variant, and more space for the family in a longer three-row SUV setup, and is the longest range model of any Tesla EV to date.
Thanh L, one of the first of the new owners, shared a photo of a white Model Y L being picked up in Queensland. It was shared on a model-specific group on Facebook and reshared by Roland L from Zapped Au YouTube channel on X.
The new owner of the new car was thrilled to pick the car up and said: āI’m so proud to be the first in Queensland taking delivery of the 2026 Tesla Model Y L.ā
Given the wait time on the model, we can expect fairly strong demand as more people make the switch to EVs, off the back of rising fuel prices.

As mentioned above, the Model Y L starts as launched last year with pricing for the new variant of Australiaās best selling EV starting at $74,900 before on-roads.
That was well below what many were expecting and making it the most affordable three-row electric SUV that offers more than 5 seats.
It’s also the first Tesla EV in Australia to feature Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, with a 3.3 kW discharge rate, and comes with a large Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery pack capable of delivering up to 681 km of range on 19-inch wheels.
Thatās over 13% more range than the current Dual-Motor Long Range model on sale in Australia, making it the longest range Model Y to date.
Underneath, the powertrain features an all-wheel-drive setup with up to 378 kW of power and 590 Nm of torque.
This helps the car accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 201 km/h.
This model also packs Teslaās premium audio system with 18 speakers and a subwoofer, more than any other Model Y variant, which has 15 speakers on the Long Range and Performance variants.
Locally, the car will be offered in five paint colour options.
In August last year, Tesla launched the new six-seater Model Y L in China, with huge uptake from local buyers looking for a spacious 6-seater family electric SUV from the brand.
Inside, drivers have adjustable headrests for the front seats, providing greater comfort for the driver and front passenger.
In the second row is where it features two ācaptainās chairsā with retractable armrests, which provide more space than the standard Model Y.
These armrests can be controlled via the rear seat screen or a button on the side of the seat cushion and are unique to the Model Y L.
In the rear, there is also a third row with two seats and cup holders on either side, providing reasonable space for third-row passengers.
The second and third-row seats in the Model Y L can also be folded down using buttons in the boot, delivering over 2,530 litres of boot space, which is fairly large in the mid-size SUV segment.
This is also thanks to the carās extended wheelbase, which is 177 mm longer than that of a standard Model Y, bringing the carās length to almost 5 metres.
On the road, the Model Y L comes with continuously variable dampers found in the Model 3 and Model Y Performance variants.
Having driven this car in Melbourne earlier this month, it’s very easy to see the upgrades Tesla has incorporated into its latest model.
Even from efficiency point of view, it was averaging 13.9 kWh/100km on freeway tests around Melbourne.
It’s by far my favourite three-row electric SUV available in the market today and now hundreds of customers are about to pick theirs up in the coming weeks.
If you’ve ordered one and test driven the Tesla Model Y L, we look forward to hearing what you think.
