Chinese EV brand Zeekr has added a new āBlack Special Editionā variant to its 7X electric SUV line-up in Australia, introducing a darker styling package that will sit at the top of the range.
The move comes after a strong start for the model locally. Since arriving in Australia last year, Zeekr says it has delivered more than 2,200 examples of the 7X, with the SUV ranking as the third-best-selling electric vehicle in Australia in February.
Priced from $75,900 before on-road costs, the new Black Edition builds on the existing Performance AWD variant but adds a series of blacked-out exterior and interior details.
Special editions like this have become a common way for carmakers to refresh models or add a new flagship variant without changing the underlying hardware, often bundling styling tweaks and cosmetic upgrades into a higher-priced trim.
The Onyx gloss paint colour is paired with a number of black exterior elements, including:
-
Front and rear lower bumpers finished in gloss black
-
Lower door exterior trims in gloss black
-
Roof rails
-
20-inch black alloy wheels
-
Exclusive rear 7X black badge
Inside, the special edition adds black Nappa leather interior trim.
Frank Li, managing director of Zeekr Australia, said the new variant was developed in response to feedback from early customers.
āThe 7X Black Special Edition is our way of celebrating the reception the 7X has received since arriving in Australia,ā Li said.
āOur customers have consistently told us they wanted a darker, bolder expression of the 7X and we listened.ā
The 7X has been one of the more competitively priced electric SUVs launched in Australia in the past year.
The entry-level rear-wheel-drive version starts from $57,900 before on-road costs and comes with a 75 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering up to 480 km of WLTP driving range.
It also features 800-volt battery architecture capable of DC charging speeds of up to 450 kW.
All variants of the 7X include 22 kW AC charging capability, which remains relatively uncommon in EVs at this price point.
The Long Range RWD version increases the range to up to 615 km thanks to a larger 100 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack.
The Performance AWD model ā which the new Black Edition is based on – delivers 475 kW of power and 710 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0ā100 km/h in 3.8 seconds while offering more than 540 km of WLTP range.
All 7X models also include vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability with a 3.3 kW output.
Black-out special editions have become increasingly common across the industry, allowing carmakers to refresh popular models without major mechanical changes. Brands including Porsche, Volvo and Ford have all introduced āBlack Editionā variants in recent years, from the Porsche Taycan Black Edition to Volvoās XC60 and XC90 Black Edition models and limited-run versions of the Ford Ranger and Everest.
The Zeekr 7X Black Edition is now available to order in Australia.
