Xpeng, one of the fastest-growing Chinese EV brands, says its newly unveiled P7 electric sedan has completed a 24-hour endurance test, completing almost 4,000 km of EV driving during that period, and setting a new record.

ā€œAccording to third-party testing, the all-new Xpeng P7 completed a total mileage of 3,961 km in the ā€œ24-hour endurance test,ā€ setting a new 24-hour distance record for a pure electric vehicle!ā€ the company said.

The testing results were shared across Chinese social media after the initial test had to be paused due to heavy rain during the night.

On Weibo the company said an earlier 24-hour endurance test was thwarted by a sudden downpour and flooding on the track, compromising driving safety and requiring the test to be suspended.Ā

During the test, the car had multiple fast charging sessions and according to the brand it showcased the low energy consumption due to the car’s slippery design and durable thermal management of the 800 V high-voltage battery system.

The P7 also hit speeds of over 210 km/h at the track in the city of Changchun, located in northeast China’s Jilin province.

Earlier this month, Xpeng teased this sleek sports sedan with its eyes set on the premium large electric sedan market. It said it achieved more than 10,000 orders within 7 minutes of it going on sale.

Not a lot of details about its specification were shared but given the brand’s other new models like the G7 featuring 800 V architecture and ultra-fast charging tech, we expect something similar in the P7. This means 10-80 % charging in under 13 minutes, thanks to its 5C charging capabilities.

This model has some of the most sporty seats on any Xpeng so far, with great lumbar and side supports, which are much needed when driving around a race track or even on long drives.

The steering wheel design is also different from other models and is also smaller and more driver-focused, with a screen behind the steering wheel that’s designed with the driver in mind.

More details on the new model are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, including its much-anticipated pricing.
