Geely, one of the biggest car makers in China, launched a city electric hatchback, called the Geome Xingyuan, in the third quarter of 2024.
Now just over 8 months later, the brand has announced that this car, which starts at the equivalent of under $A15,000, has had 200,000 units roll off the production line, according to reports from CNC.
Based on Geely’s SEA EV platform, the Geome Xingyuan has been one of the best-selling electric cars from the brand.
This 4.14 metre long four door hatchback is powered by two motors. Entry level has a 58 kW motor while a more powerful 85 kW variant is also on offer.
Acceleration on the 85 kW variant comes with a 0-50 km/h time of just 3.9 seconds.
These motors can get to top speeds of 125 km/h and 135 km/h respectively.
Feeding these motors is either a 30.12 kWh or a larger 40.16 kWh CATL supplied lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs.
These packs deliver a CLTC range of 310 km and 410 km, respectively. That’s likely to be closer to 250 km to 350 km on the WLTP cycle.
Fast charging is also available with 30-80% in just 21 minutes.
One key feature of the Geome Xingyuan is it’s light weight package, coming in at just 1,285 kg. For comparison, the BYD Dolphin electric hatchback weighs over 200 kg more.
On the inside, this model still features one of the biggest infotainment screen in its class. A 14.6-inch screen powered by Flyme, which is a similar system found in the locally delivered Geely EX5 SUV.
Comfort features such as heated seats and wireless charging is also on offer, along with safety tech like surrounding camera suite to help with parking.
The 200,000 production milestone comes only 3 months after the first 100,000 units were produced in March.
Small city electric hatchbacks are quite a popular segments in China, Europe and other international markets.
With consumers in Australia also looking for affordable electric options to replace older ICE vehicles, it’s a segment that’s expected to have more options to the market in coming years.
It could very well be models from Geely that would change the dynamics of electric cars and affordability in our market.
