Last year, Swedish-based car maker Polestar announced that it would expand its local lineup with a luxury electric SUV called the Polestar 3, followed closely by Polestar 4. It also hinted that more models were coming in 2025, including a high-end electric sedan, the Polestar 5.
Now, an EV enthusiast, John H, has spotted a Polestar 5 test vehicle on Australian roads and shared it with the BYD Owners Group on Facebook.
It shows a white Polestar 5 evaluation vehicle driven on an Adelaide road with Victorian number plates.
From the rear, the taillights are seen to cover the width of the Grand Tourer (GT) like a large sedan. The car also appears relatively low to the ground compared to the Honda Jazz in the lane next to it, giving it a sporty stance.

On Polestar’s local website, the brand describes the 5 as a “Grand Tourer. Game changer.” that will use cutting-edge bonded aluminium technology on the chassis with seats for four passengers.
The Polestar 5 was first teased in the form of a prototype back in 2022 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Since then, the company has been working to bring it to life and almost 3 years later, production evaluation vehicles are being spotted testing in Australia.
According to a press release from April 2024, the company hinted that the Polestar 5 will feature a bespoke 800-V EV architecture, producing up to 650 kW and 900 Nm of torque.
It was developed by the Polestar UK R&D team on what the company calls Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA).
Polestar also mentioned that this car will compete with Porsche Panamera and the Mercedes-Benz EQS.
In January 2025, Polestar announced that it is also planning to produce a new compact SUV model called the Polestar 7 in Europe with production likely to begin in 2026.
The Polestar 7 is looking to be a best-seller for the brand in years to come and is likely to be similar in dimensions to Volvo’s EX30, which has seen great sales globally in 2024.
At the Polestar 7 event, the company reaffirmed that its GT model, the 4-seater Polestar 5, will be released this year.
Local pricing and specs of the upcoming Polestar 5 are yet to be confirmed and will be announced ahead of the local launch later this year.
