Kiwi electric vehicle smart charger manufacturer Evnex has launched two new products; an ultra-affordable smart charger and top-of-the-range version with enhanced capabilities.
The two chargers are the E2 Core and the E2 Plus, both manufactured in Christchurch, and both marketed at highly competitive price points.
Evnex CEO Ed Harvey said the E2 Core will fill a major gap in the market, offering smart charging at the affordable price of $999.
“We understand that in today’s economic climate, affordability is key for many EV owners,” said Harvey.
“We believe there is a gap in the market for a premium locally made product to take on some of the cheaper imported brands and we’re excited to see how it resonates with consumers.”
The E2 Plus, on the other hand, builds on the Core’s technology but with more colour options, a longer cable, local load balancing and Tesla integration. That charger will have a launch price of $1,299.
“The E2 Plus is our premium model, delivering cutting-edge technology and colour options for those who want the very best in smart charging,” said Harvey.
Evnex says their smart chargers are the “world’s slimmest”, and both the Plus and Core models enable scheduled charging for off-peak times, and solar diversion.
The chargers deliver around 50 kilometres of range per hour, slightly above the average fast charger.
Few other chargers on the Australian market rival the E2 Core’s competitive price point, though the ZJ Beny is a notable exception.
Online reviews of Evnex’s previously released chargers note the charger’s sustainability credentials, including bioplastic casing, and “excellent customer service”.
The existing Evnex E2, which has a customer rating of 4.6 stars on SolarQuotes, comes with a number of smart features, including CT clamps that allow the charger to tell when the home is exporting solar energy, and divert that excess solar energy to the charger instead, reducing power bills by up to 30 cents per kWh.
The E2 also comes with a mobile phone app that allows a household to estimate the CO2 emissions from charging, allowing the owner to opt to charge when emissions are lowest.
Evnex has soared in popularity since its founding in 2014, with Polestar nominating Evnex as their preferred charger for Australian households in 2023.
