A South Australian man has secured his second Guinness World Record with his electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire, travelling nearly 1,000 kilometres in 24 hours.

Duncan Mallord, an executive with global services firm Hatch, secured his second Guinness World Record last month, completing 962.7 kilometres at the Adelaide International Raceway in a ride that required only six charging cycles.

Mallord has twice been in the news for his accomplishments atop his electric Harley.

In May 2022, he completed a 1,880-kilometre journey from Australia’s largest lake (when full) in the South Australian outback to Mount Kosciuszko in New South Wales, all for a cost of $15.50.

A year later, Mallord was awarded his first Guinness World Record for the May 2022 journey, claiming the world record for the greatest altitude change by an electric motorcycle.

Fast forward, and Mallord is back in the news for his latest Guinness World Record, greatest distance on an electric motorcycle in 24 hours.

Mallord’s ride took place over 24 hours across November 16 and 17, in blistering heat which caused delays at the charging station before torrential rain and lightning rolled in, Mallord completed the arduous record-breaking attempt.

“Every challenge – from the weather to the wear on my tyres – was a chance to demonstrate the real-world resilience of electric vehicles,” said Mallord.

“I hope this record inspires people to see EVs not just as a novelty but as a powerful, practical, and sustainable option for Australia’s future.

“This record was my way of showing that electric vehicles are ready to tackle the challenges of this country – from long distances to tough conditions. With the right infrastructure and mindset, EVs can not only match traditional vehicles but exceed expectations.”

Mallord has now set his sights on the next big EV challenge, a potentially pioneering electric motorcycle journey around Australia to draw the largest GPS map in a country.
