With just over a month in the first quarter of 2024, Tesla has ratcheted up its discounting and special offers Ā in Australia.
As Tim Eden reports here, Tesla is offering a free transfer of its Full Self Driving software from existing holders if they buy a new Model 3 or Model Y before the end of the month. Now they are also offering Cybertruck reservation holders a $1,500 discount of one of those new EVs.
Over the weekend, Chris Q, an avid reader of The Driven, spotted this offer. According to Teslaās local Instagram page, Cybertruck reservation holders in Australia will be eligible for a discount if they purchase and receive a Tesla Model 3 or a Model Y by the end of this quarter.
Tesla states in the post: āCybertruck reservation holders have access to a AUD1,500/NZD1,600 discount on Model 3 and Model Y purchases when delivered before 31 March 2024,ā.
This highlights that the discount is available in New Zealand as well, making it attractive for Cybertruck reservation holders in both countries, who may have to wait some time to see their preferred vehicle arrive in Australia, despite it appearing in Japan, the biggest right hand market.

Itās been one of the first times that a discount offer has been available on the recently refreshed Tesla Model 3 which had its first deliveries begin locally in December 2023.
With this offer, customers can purchase a new Model 3 for as low as $60,400 with the $1,500 discount. This is down from the standard pricing of $61,900 before any on-road costs or state subsidies (where available).
Similarly, the Model Y can be purchased for $63,900, down from its list price of $65,400 before any on-road costs or state subsidies.
Itās unclear how many local Cybertruck reservation holders are in both countries, but itās likely to be a sizeable number if Tesla is promoting the discount to a wider customer base.
This offer will apply to existing Tesla Cybertruck reservation holders as new customers can not reserve the vehicle from Tesla.
As of writing, Teslaās Australian Cybertruck website has a āGet Updatesā button as the company ramps up production of the steel-bodied vehicle in Austin Texas.

Since its first customer deliveries in November, hundreds of order holders have received their vehicles in selected parts of the US.
Itās also been showcased in showrooms and automotive industry shows in North America.Ā
In recent times, the company has taken the Cybertruck outside of the US to Asia with the first few trucks landing in China in January.
Since then, Tesla has begun roadshows in Japan followed by South Korea. The company will likely have a vehicle to showcase across many countries in the coming months, including Australia and New Zealand.

With Tesla pulling another demand lever to help it accelerate EV sales in the first quarter of 2024, it appears that the company is aiming to beat its 10,407 sales record in the first three months of 2023.Ā
To get there, itād need a massive effort in the last two months since January 2024 only saw 1,107 sales. Let’s hope the company can get there to keep the strong momentum on EV uptake from 2023 going.
