Back in July, Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk revealed some details on the size of the upcoming futuristic Cybertruck: “This is the first truck that we are aware that will have four doors, over a six-foot bed and would fit into a 20-foot garage,” Musk said.
Now a short video has surfaced showing the Cybertruck reversing into a San Francisco garage. The video was captured by X user wilfredo and was taken by a Tesla in dashcam mode.
The Cybertruck inches forward with its front lightbar beaming before backing into a small garage of an apartment building.
Given the tight squeeze as seen in the footage, some observers questioned if the test-driver of the Cybertruck was able to get out of the garage using Tesla’s “smart summon” feature: “I wonder how they got out of the truck. Smart summon it in?”
With this feature, the Tesla vehicle can be moved with Tesla’s mobile app without the driver being behind the steering wheel. According to wilfredo, the driver reversed the Cybertruck in and walked right out.
Without knowing the length or width of the garage, it’s difficult to say how tight of a squeeze the Cybertruck was inside it but it does give us an idea of what to expect.
Another video captures the rear-wheel steering feature in action when the Cybertruck is seen reversing.
With many features being captured only building on the hype behind this vehicle’s imminent delivery event, it’s a product that could help revolutionize the electric ute and truck space, creating further demand.
In July, Musk commented on how much demand Tesla is seeing with the Cybertruck. In response to an analyst question at the company’s Q2 earnings call Musk commented: “The demand is so far off the hook, that you can’t even see the hook.”
Tesla has set a production target of around 250,000 vehicles out of its Texas-based production line. This will still mean that with existing estimated orders of around 2 million, it could be a very long time until they are fulfilled.
It’s good to see new details of the Cybertruck and its ability to fit into tighter spaces and have a shorter turning circle, thanks to rear-wheel steering. We expect Tesla to announce the delivery event in the coming days as hundreds of thousands order holders patiently await.
