Rimac, the Croatian electric hypercar maker has set a new production EV record track record at the famous Nürburgring track in Germany.
The quad-motor Rimac Nevera lapped the track in 7 minutes and 5 seconds, making it the fastest electric production car around Nürburgring. The timing was verified by independent timing data, TUV SUD, as well as onboard vehicle telemetry.
The nearly 21 km lap highlights were shared by Rimac on X.
“In many ways the Nevera has reinvented the world of the hypercar, bringing new technologies, new abilities, and new levels of performance,” CEO, Mate Rimac said.
“But the simplest way we can demonstrate its capabilities is to go out and break records. And that’s exactly what we’ve done in 2023 time and again.”
The Nevera has also set the 0-100 km/h production car record. The $A3.3 million hypercar achieved this feat in under 1.74 seconds. It set that with road-legal Michelin Cup 2 R tyres.
The Nevera quad-motors produce a total of 1,427 kW and 2,360 Nm of torque. They are fed by a 120 kWh battery pack that can propel this hypercar to a top speed of 412 km/h.
The Nevera is the second production car from Rimac although it is limited to just 150 production vehicles.
The previous record lap time was only set two months ago by the Tesla Model S Plaid with a time of 7 minutes and 25 seconds.
For comparison, the Model S Plaid is a four-door, road-legal car with thousands of units produced since the first deliveries began back in 2021.
In the US, the Model S Plaid starts at $US108,490, meanwhile, the track pack can be added for another $US20,000, bringing the total price to $US128,490. The Rimac Nevera starts at $US2,200,000, which is over 17 times the price of the Model S Plaid with the track pack.
It’s good to see competition in the performance EV space starting to take shape. The next performance vehicle that could get close to Rimac Nevera would be the Tesla Roadster which is likely to begin production in 2024.
While we wait, the Rimac Nevera will remain the EV king of Nürburgring.
