Fisker, the US-based electric vehicle startup, has surprisingly revealed a new ute-like product called the Alaska.Ā
The company held a “reveal” of the first prototype of the Alaska at Huntington Beach in California as part of its āProduct Vision Day 2023ā.Ā
This ute will include a bed that can be extended up to 2.3 metres – from a standard bed length of 1.2 metres – by dropping a hidden mid-section of the vehicle and lowering the tailgate.
For comparison, with the tailgate up, the Rivian R1T has a 1.3 metres long bed and the Ford F150 Lightning has 1.6 metres bed.
The high-level specifications announced at the Product Vision Day have an upper-end range of up to 547 km on a single charge. Meanwhile entry level model will offer 370 km of range.
When revealing the surprise new EV, Fisker outlined that it expects to produce it in the US which would make it eligible for generous US EV purchase incentives.
Prices will start at $US45,400 – which is equivalent to $A69,240 – before any US incentives. As of 2023, federal US incentives are as much as $7,500 for eligible residents, bringing the price under $US37,000.
Fisker also said the Alaska will be one of the lightest trucks in the US market along with it also having high sustainability credentials.
Reservations are now open with first deliveries expected to start in 2025. At this stage, there is no indication of it being produced for right-hand-drive markets.
At the same event, Fisker unveiled a small SUV, the Pear, along with a new roadster, the Ronin. Reservations for the Pear and Alaska are now open but deliveries are still years away.
More information on production and full specifications of these models will be announced closer to the launch.
