Last month, it was reported that ten ships with newly constructed Tesla vehicles on board had arrived in Australia this quarter. As we approach the final week of this quarter, Tesla ship tracking expert, VedaPrime has confirmed that this number has gone up to a record 16 ships in total.
This includes ships to the east coast of Australia along with several ships heading to Fremantle port in Western Australia.
Official data shows that for the first two months of this quarter, a total of 8,152 Teslas were delivered to customers, taking the total so far for the first five months of 2023 to 18,559 sales.
Of this number, the Model 3 sedan is ahead with 10,117 sales, while the Model Y has 8,442.
It’s expected that the Model Y will surpass Tesla Model 3 in terms of year-to-date sales by the end of June with most of the cars on the latest arrivals being the popular SUV crossover.
The Tesla Model Y became the best-selling SUV in Australia, as EV sales hit a record in May. A total of 8,124 EVs were sold with the Model Y making up 3,178 of these sales.
This trend is set to continue as the demand for EVs continues to rise with strong incentives being offered in many states and with Tesla leading the pack, it will see continued growth in orders.
