The MG 4 has officially been officially unveiled and launched in Australia, but at the Fully Charged Live show this weekend the price was kept secret. There is still no firm indication of how close to a $40,000 price tag the car will be.
The MG4 – dubbed the ābargain of the yearā in overseas markets such as UK, was unveiled by Fully Charged founder Robert Llewellyn and MG Motor CEO Peter Ciao on Friday night.

Ciao said the car – set to be the lowest cost new EV in Australia to date – will be available later this year. Local pricing and specifications are expected to be released closer to the launch.
MG spoke about the safety features of the EV and the advanced battery technologies that the new electric hatch comes equipped with.
Two models of the MG 4 were available for people to see in person. One had a standard range battery pack while the more premium variant had a long-range battery.Ā
The standard version has a smaller 51 kWh battery pack while the extended version comes with a larger 64 kWh pack.
It was good to see both cars on display with hundreds of people getting in and out of the new MG 4 over the weekend. It certainly grabbed a lot of attention from those attending the show, many of whom are considering making the switch to an all-electric vehicle.
The Driven also got to sit in both variants at the show. The interior was very similar between both cars. The larger battery variant displayed a range of 370 km at 91% which would indicate a range of around 400 km at 100% state of charge.Ā
This seems lower than the claimed 450 km of WLTP range in other markets. The official specs will confirm the Australian specification car closer to the launch date.
The interior felt well put together with a mixture of hard and soft plastics inside the cabin.Ā
The rear seat did have reasonable head and leg room for a hatchback and the boot also was in line with hatchbacks on the market.
On the charging front, the CCS2 port was there and according to ev-database, it is capable of fast charging at 135 kW.
It was good to see a new EV showcased at the Fully Charged Live show whichĀ saw thousands attend over this weekend. It included a wide range of people from EV owners, those interested in home energy and Technology, future buyers, families and a whole lot more which was great to see.
