Hyundai’s premium brand Genesis has lifted the veil on Australian specifications and pricing of its Electrified G80, an all-electric homage to luxury sedans.

Available in one “highly equipped” AWD variant, the Electrified G80 is priced from $145,00 before on-road costs.

With a 87.2kWh (82.4kWh usable) battery under the floor, it is rated for 520km driving all-electric range (WLTP) which puts it at around 464km real-world range.

It delivers 136kW from each of its front and rear motors for 272kW power in total, with a considerable 700Nm maximum torque that allows it to dash from zero to 100km/hr in a snappy 4.9 seconds.

The G80 Electrified is built on the same e-GMP platform as Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Kia’s EV6, and gets the same 400v/800v architecture that allows it to charge on a DC fast charger from 10-80% in 22 minutes with a top charge rate of 240kW.

This also means it gets vehicle-to-load (V2L), although it appears this will only be available with the 3.6kW external adapter, unlike the Ioniq 5 and EV6 which also have an internal plug.

The Electrified G80 joins the premium brand’s GV60, specs and pricing for which the brand went public on in July. There is also a

“The introduction of the sophisticated Electrified G80, along with Electrified GV70 and our GV60, sees Genesis transition into the future with electrification as a core brand pillar,” head of Genesis Motors Australia Connal Yan said in a statement.

“Electrified G80 builds on the renowned luxury and appeal of G80 with its refined, zero-emission battery-electric performance, long-range and ultra-rapid charging to create a fitting range flagship,” he said.

Outer good looks, interior comfort

Like its GV60 stablemate, the Electrified G80 inherits Genesis’ stylish interior and sleek exterior.

As a sedan, it strikes a sporting presence on the road that is emphasised by its aerodynamic profile and inverted G-Matrix pattern that marks it out as an electric car.

Despite this, the charging flap is neatly hidden under the right top corner of the grille. When it’s opened, Genesis says a twin chrome line ties in with the double chrome accents on the car’s exterior.

The Genesis Electrified G80 is available in the same 10 colours as its combustion engine G80 cousins, plus a signature blue dubbed “Matira” that is in fact a deep turquoise. Nine gloss colours are also available as well as “Verbier” white and a matte gray.

Inside, sumptuous quilted seating is available in a choice of black, brown blue or white.

In keeping with the vehicle’s eco-friendly credentials, Genesis says it has used low-impact and recycled materials from natural dye for the Nappa leather seats, console and armrests, as well as accents (referred to as “garnish” by Genesis, making it sound like a salad!) made from recycled birch wood left over from furniture factories.

Occupants will be glad of the acoustic laminated glass and soft close doors, as well as welcome puddle lights for a luxurious entry and quiet journey in the vehicle.
