As the electric vehicle transition begins to pick up pace in Australia, this is our last weekly feature for 2021 giving you a round up of what’s happened this week in the local EV industry and community.
The biggest news of the week is that Tesla has topped 10,000 EV sales in Australia, while 2021 is looking positive for EVs as shown in our new EV model calendar.

Tesla sales in Australia topped 10,000, and every two in three EVs sold are Teslas
Tesla has shipped more than 10,000 electric cars to Australia since 2014, and double that sold by all other car makers combined in 2020, new data reveals.

NRMA opened another electric vehicle fast charger at Armidale Visitor Information Centre
EV drivers can now be stop off in Armidale to recharge at the city’s Visitor Information Centre.
“With the addition of Armidale’s charger drivers of electric vehicles can now travel from Sydney to the Queensland border with certainty there will be somewhere to plug-in no more than 90 minutes away,” Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said in a statement.
“Centrally located at the Armidale Visitor Information Centre, the charger will draw travellers in off the New England Highway and encourage them to take in the sights and sounds of the city as well as find out more about what the region has to offer.”
NRMA EV Division Manager Suzana Barbir said Armidale is a major connection along the New England Highway, and part of the NRMA’s vision to work with the NSW Government to boost regional travel.
“We believe that with a comprehensive regional fast charging network we will see this type of vehicle become an increasingly popular choice,” Barbir said.
Australia’s EMoS launched Wyld “e-chopper” motorcycle
Brisbane-based Electric Mobility Solutions unveiled its new Wyld “e-chopper” electric scooter at University of Southern Queensland’s Springfield campus.
Australia’s cheapest EV added to subscription lineup
Northern Beaches car dealer Col Crawford’s car subscription service Syd Car Solutions is adding the MG ZS EV to its line up of electric cars available on subscription, from January 2021.
Harrison Crawford, dealer principal at Syd Car Solutions said, “We’re already seeing car subscriptions gaining popularity in Australia and expect it to rapidly become a significant part of the automotive industry moving forward. Not only have we seen tremendous success since launching subscriptions earlier this year, but we consistently receive more requests for electric models than any other vehicle category.”
“We expect electric cars to grow to become the most in-demand vehicle category for subscription and the launch of the MG ZS EV will make it even easier for Aussies to make the shift to electric. This will further demand for both EVs and flexible ownership models, with more customers looking to ‘trial’ electric cars. In turn, we expect more dealerships to start offering EV subscriptions over the next 12 months.”
