Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory has halted production after fire destroyed an electricity pylon which supplies the factor According to Reuters the fire was deliberately lit in a suspected arson attack.
A spokesperson for Tesla said that due to the fire, production has been stopped and that it’s unlikely to resume until next week.
According to local media, a left wing group calling themselves “Volcano” claimed responsibility for the attack.
“These are either the dumbest eco-terrorists on Earth or they’re puppets of those who don’t have good environmental goals,” Tesla boss Elon Musk said on X.
The production shutdown is estimated to cost Tesla over a hundred million euros, with 1,000 vehicles left unfinished
“If a left-wing extremist motive is confirmed, then this is further evidence that the left-wing extremist scene does not shy away from attacks on critical energy infrastructure,” Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said.
“The consequences can affect thousands of completely uninvolved people, as they do today. This shows enormous criminal energy.”
