Pricing and first shipping dates for the MG4 have emerged, and some MG dealerships are taking “pre-orders” for the highly anticipated electric hatchback.
A new video posted on YouTube lets viewers in on a little secret. Namely, a $1,000 deposit can be left with dealers for what could be Australia’s cheapest EV to date.
The MG4 is the first to be built on a ground-up electric platform from the SAIC-owned brand. It arrived to receive certification for sale in early September, and has been well-received in the UK.
And now, the MG4 is apparently available for pre-order – but only through certain dealerships, it would appear.
The YouTuber known simply as “Storm Juice” says they have submitted their own deposit. As proof, they shared a carefully redacted copy of their deposit receipt in the video.
Estimated MG4 pricing for Australia
Importantly, they say they were told that the price for the MG4 will be around the $40,000. That’s around $5,000 less than the MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3 compact SUVs.
The YouTuber has also revealed they were told that a consignment of MG4s has already been ordered for March/April delivery.
“I had a friend yesterday that went to MG in Wangara to test drive the MG ZS EV,” he says. He adds, “…while he was there …. the dealer said that they have got a consignment coming in from China for the MG4 in March/April next year and that they’re taking deposits of one thousand dollars for a pre-order.
“So that’s what I did,” he says. He then shares a copy of his receipt which states at the bottom it is for an MG4.
“Now they don’t have it on the system yet, it’s that new, so this actually says MG ZS EV Essence. But ignore that …. ignore the price there as well, it’s just an estimate, it’s actually about $40,000 is what the car will be costing.
“Down here in special conditions it says deposit $1,000 required, (and) this contract is for a pre-order MG4 not as described above (the ZS EV), deposit is fully refundable subject to viewing and test drive 64kWh and orange variant,” he reads.
Only some MG dealers may take MG4 pre-order deposits
“So I would suggest you if anyone is interested in actually checking out the MG availability for pre-order in your state, ring each of your dealers and see what they may or may not have to offer you,” he says.
“Because Wangara MG had the foresight to actually order their own consignment of MG4 they’re obviously getting them sooner and therefore I will be getting one sooner.”
“Your luck may vary in each of these other states,” he adds.
