Chery Group, one of the fastest-growing car makers in the world and known for its affordable electric models in international markets, has announced that it will be moving upmarket with the launch of its new Luxury brand, Luxeed.
At an event in China, the company announced that the Luxeed brand will be going global, including right-hand drive markets. At the same event, the company confirmed that it would be heading to Australia in 2027.
Luxeed International CEO Shawn Xu also shared the brandās expansion plans, which would start with two models. The first being a plug-in hybrid people mover, known in international markets as the LLounge.
The first fully electric model to arrive in Australia will be the 5-metre-long, Luxeed Stomax electric SUV, packing up to 460 kW of power, and a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.9 seconds.
This powertrain sits on an 800 V architecture and packs 775 Nm of torque, helping the car reach a top speed of 250 km/h, which would make it nearly as fast as the Tesla Model Y Performance.

Locally in the Chinese market, the Stormax was launched in late Q3 2026 as the Luxeed RX, and has supercar SUV-inspired styling from the front, side and rear of the car.
In China, the Stormax is available in three battery configurations, with the smaller 81.1 kWh battery pack, delivering up to 700 km on the CLTC cycle, which is likely to be closer to 500 km on the WLTP cycle.
The bigger two packs are both around 100 kWh, boosting that range to 852 km on the same CLTC cycle which would be closer to 650 km on the WLTP cycle.
It is priced from the equivalent of $A55,500 and, since its launch, has seen solid demand for the model, with first-month sales accounting for over 5.000 units.
No pricing or exact specifications for either of the models have been confirmed for Australia, but we can expect the Stormax to start at under $A90,000. That would put it around the same entry price as the BMW iX3.
Luxeed is a joint venture between Chery and Huawei in the Chinese market, but internationally, the expansion is driven by Chery Group, hence likely using different software for ADAS and other tech.
Given the sporty looks and high-end electrical architecture, it could be quite a dynamic offering in our market. First Luxeed models are expected to land in Australia by the middle of 2027, and could possibly be even ahead of the recently announced Chery-owned Exlantix brandās arrival into our market.
