Australian electric vehicle (EV) charging manufacturer EVX says it plans to manufacture a new pole-mounted DC fast charger specifically designed for Australian streets, building on its existing kerbside AC charging technology.

EVX, founded in 2021, has quickly established itself as a leader in pole-mounted EV chargers and is one of Australia’s fastest growing EV charging infrastructure companies. The company currently boasts 518 chargers at 259 locations across New South Wales and Victoria.

It already makes the 22 kilowatt (kW) dual-charging Polecharger, which was developed specifically to make use of existing utility poles around the country.

EVX says it is now expanding out of the AC charging world and into the DC fast-charging market with the launch of Polecharger Rapid, a new 40-50 kW charger that has similarly been designed specifically for Australian electricity networks, local government requirements, and public spaces.

“We have already demonstrated that public EV charging infrastructure can be designed and manufactured locally and deployed at meaningful scale,” aid Andrew Forster, EVX CEO.

“Polecharger Rapid is the next step, taking that capability into DC charging and creating a product specifically for the places and conditions in which Australian councils, networks and communities need it to operate.”

EVX says it is currently progressing detailed engineering, certification, manufacturing, and deployment planning for Polecharger Rapid.

The company plans to release further technical specifications, manufacturing partnerships, and initial deployment locations closer to a commercial release, though it has promised initial deployments for early 2027 in strategically selected locations across urban activity centres and regional and rural communities.
