Electric trucking company New Energy Transport has announced the arrival of the first two Windrose electric prime movers in Australia as it prepares to launch its electric freight operations between Sydney and Canberra, the national capital.
According to NET co-founder Daniel Bleakley, the two Windrose electric prime movers that have cleared customs in Melbourne are the first to be sold in Australia. Several have previously been available in Australia for trials and display, and are capable of covering more than 600 kms with a fully loaded trailer with a single charge.
“In a few weeks these trucks will go into full-time operation with two of our foundation customers, running daily heavy road freight from Sydney to Canberra without using a drop of diesel,” Bleakley wrote in a post on LinkedIn.
New Energy Transport announced in June plans to fast-track the roll out of 20 electric prime movers – which will ply corridors between Sydney and regional centres such as Newcastle, Wollongong and Canberra – after landing $5 million in funding.
It said at the time its electric prime movers will be supported by six “mobile” ultra-fast charging units that will be deployed as it constructs its first electric truck charging hub in Wilton, south of Sydney, as reported by The Driven in April.
Wen Han, the founder and CEO of QWindrose, recently posted that the company is now preparing its next generation electric prime mover that he says will include an aluminium body and a “best in class” range of 960 km, fully loaded.
The new truck is dubbed the Mega E960, and will have a 940 kWh LMFP battery, much bigger than its closest rivals. Han says its 960 km range will easily beat that of the Tesla Semi long range (805 km), Volvo FH Aero (700 km), and the Mercedes eActross 600 (500 km).
First deliveries are expected in 2028.
