Chinese car maker Xpeng on Tuesday opened the order books for their new all-electric people mover, the seven seat X9.
The new EV – the second to be delivered by the company in Australia – will be available in two variants: a two-wheel drive (2WD, front wheels driven) version, priced at $89,900 plug on-road costs, and an all-wheel drive (AWD) starting at $109,900 (plus on-roads).
The 2WD comes with a 94.8 kWh LFP battery, giving it a WLTP range of 535km, whilst the AWD comes with a larger 110 NCM battery, giving a WLTP range of 580km. Both offer DC charging at up to 542kW, allowing a 10 to 80% charge in as little as 12 minutes. AC charging is up to 11kW plus V2L is standard at 6kW.
With all seven seats in use, there is still 721 litre boot capacity available, which Xpeng claim allows for seven passengers and still be capable of carrying seven, 50 cm carry-on suitcases.
The 60/40 split-folding second and third rows allow the cabin to adapt to different needs, from a premium four-seat lounge layout to practical five, six or seven-seat configurations, while one-touch folding unlocks up to 2,554 litres of cargo space.

Technology highlights include a 21.4-inch rear entertainment display, 27-speaker audio system, and (believe it or not) a voice-controlled integrated refrigerator.
Driver assistance features, called XPILOT Assist, is supported by XPENG’s in-house AI Turing Chip and combines cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors to support a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centreing Control, Automatic Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Detection.
Parking assistance includes Enhanced Auto Parking Assist, Remote Parking Assist, Auto Exit Parking Assist and a 360-degree surround-view camera with transparent chassis view. In AWD form, the rear wheels allow for up to 5 degrees of steering control, minimising the turning circle for what is quite a large vehicle.
