The local branch of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng says reservations are now open for the new G6 mid-size electric SUV, starting from just over $50,000 and an electric range of around 500 kilometres.

The new G6 Ultra Smart Coupe SUV will begin arriving in Australian showrooms this month, featuring an 800V architecture and ultra-fast 5C charging capable of taking the car from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 12 minutes – though those were under so-called “test conditions” and may not be replicable in Australia.

Available in four variants, the G6 starts with the RWD Standard Range, boasting up to 480 km of electric range (WLTP), and starting from $51,800.

A second RWD model features up to 525 km (WLTP) of range for $56,800, while two all-wheel drive ‘Performance’ models both feature 510 km (WLTP) range, at $63,800 and $66,800 for the Performance Black Edition. All prices are before on-road costs.

All models feature the 800V high-voltage silicon carbide architecture and 5C ultra-fast charging, with peak DC charging power of up to 451kW on the Long Range variant. The G6 also features 6kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.

Inside, a 10.25-inch digital driver display is paired with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen featuring both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a XOPERA audio system with 18 speakers in a 7.1.4 architecture. The car also features over-the-air (OTA) software update capabilities.

A range of driver assistance options are expected to be available through the company’s XPILOT Assist, but Xpeng has warned that feature availability is “subject to the final Australian specification.”

The AWD Performance Black Edition is the flagship variant, and though it shares all the features with the Performance variant, it includes an exclusive black exterior paint job, 20-inch wheels in black finish, and other black stylings.

The G6 also comes with a factory-backed 7-year unlimited km warranty for private owners, and an 8-year/160,000km traction battery, battery management system, drive motor, and intelligent power unit warranty.

“The New G6 is an important step for Xpeng in Australia,” said Damian Royce, head of marketing, Xpeng ANZ.

“It brings sharper design, faster charging, advanced technology and a stronger model line-up to customers looking for a premium electric SUV that feels genuinely next generation.
