BYD has launched a new version of the Dolphin electric hatchback with the rear seats removed and conversion to a cargo van for delivery operators.
The Dolphin Cargo e-Van is based on the standard Dolphin variant in the UK market, but is geared towards last-mile delivery businesses.
This new fleet-focused variant packs the same levels of equipment as the standard base car in that market, but with over 1,090 litres of cargo loading space.
According to the brand, the conversion involves removing the rear seats and installing a full metal bulkhead behind the front seats, thereby freeing up this load capacity.
When it comes to loading specs, the maximum load length is 1,250 mm, the minimum load width (between the wheel arches) is 1,018 mm, and the maximum width is 1,160 mm. Maximum load height is also set at 710 mm.
These dimensions fit within the Dolphin Cargo e-Van’s smaller-than-normal commercial van length of just 4,290 mm.Ā
This variant will have a WLTP combined range of over 500 km, thanks to its 60 kWh BYD blade battery, ensuring a full charge can get over a day of work done without needing to charge during the workday.
It will also come standard with key features for fleets, including Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) to power equipment for applications such as mobile servicing, site maintenance, portable lighting, and tool charging, without the need for additional power sources.
There is also a heat pump, heated steering wheel and heated front seats, which improves vehicle battery efficiency by heating the driver and not the load in the back.
On top of that, it features a 360-degree parking camera to help in tighter city laneways and carparks. There is also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

According to BYD, the company can also help fleets install bespoke solutions, including:
- Reversing alarms
- Amber warning beacons
- Vehicle signage and customised storage configurations tailored to customer requirements
The new Dolphin Cargo e-Van is available to order from BYD dealers in the UK, with a starting price of £29,358, about £1,000 below the base variant.
