MG has announced that its new premium electric SUV, the MGS6, has officially gone on sale in Australia, boasting a range of up to 530 kilometres and a starting price from $49,990.

The MGS6 will be available in two variants – the Essence RWD starting from $49,990 drive-away, and the MGS6 EV Essence AWD from $56,990 drive-away.

“This year has been a milestone for MG, with the MGS6 EV marking our third all‑electric launch in 2026 so far and completing our most comprehensive EV lineup to date,” said Dimitri Andreatidis, marketing director at MG Motor Australia.

The MGS6 is built on parent company SAIC’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), promising what MG describes as “smooth, responsive performance tailored to Australian roads.”

The entry-level rear-wheel drive version offers a single rear motor putting out 180 kW of power, acceleration from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds, and a range of up to 530km (WLTP). MG has added a front motor to the MGS6 EV Essence AWD for a combined output of 266kW, acceleration of 5.1 seconds, and a range of up to 485km (WLTP).

Both variants feature a 77kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NMC) battery that offers charging at 144kW on a 150kW DC charger, capable of charging from 10 to 80 per cent in 38 minutes.

Also coming as standard on both variants is the carmaker’s highly efficient heat pump, One Pedal Mode, and adjustable regenerative braking, and towing rated at 750kg unbraked and 1,500kg braked.

Measuring 4708mm long, 1912m wide, and 1664mm high, the MGS6 EV looks like a lot of other SUVs, although MG describes it as  a “confident, contemporary design that blends athletic proportions with a clean, understated aesthetic.”

The car features sculpted bodywork and aerodynamic detailing, and its 20‑inch alloy wheels with low‑wind‑resistance caps continues the dual focus on efficiency and “visual polish”.

Inside, premium materials and soft-touch surfaces are matched with an 11-speaker audio system with subwoofer, heated and ventilated vegan‑leather seats with suede upholstery, heated outer rear seats, and ambient lighting. A dual-screen layout up front combines a 12.8-inch HD touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display, in addition to a Head Up Display (HUD).

Other tech inclusions consist of both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 50W wireless smartphone charging, voice control functionality, and integrated applications, services, and iSmart companion app.

The MGS6 EV also incorporates a range of safety features thanks to the latest generation of the MG Pilot driver assistance program, including active emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera, and blind spot detection.

And to further deliver on the promise of a car that is “equally at home in the city or heading away for the weekend”, the MGS6 EV boasts rear cargo space of 581 litres and an additional 86 litres in the “frunk” of the RWD model, and 67 litres in the AWD. With the rear seats folded down, total storage expands to 1,690 litres.

Every model will also be supported by MG Motor Australia’s comprehensive ownership program, which includes a 7‑year unlimited kilometre warranty, and the option of up to 10 years or 250,000km of MG Service Activated Extended Warranty.

The MGS6 EV is available in seven different exterior paint jobs, with “Dover White” as standard, and is on sale in MG dealerships across Australia from today.
