In 2024, Xpeng launched in Australia with its sleek, tech-driven G6 SUV. Now it’s about to launch its second, a large electric people mover.
The new X9 was teased at motor shows in Sydney and Melbourne, and we got to see the first version for the international markets being unveiled in Hong Kong in April 2025, with fast-charging times as quick as 12 minutes.
Now, the new X9 is heading to Australia and has been spotted on the ROVER approval-for-sale register, offered in four variants, featuring up to 7 seats and packed with captain’s chairs and luxury for all passengers. This was first spotted by Roland L from Zapped Au YouTube channel on X.
The variants include:
- 2WD Standard Range – 255 kW
- 2WD Long Range – 255 kW
- 2 x AWD Long Range – 395 kW
The 5.32-metre-long people mover will be available with a height of 1.99 metres and a running clearance of 145 mm.Ā
All variants will weigh between 2.6 and 2.8 tonnes, depending on the motor, battery and powertrain configurations.
Braked towing is approved for up to 1,500 kg, while non-braked is limited to 750 kg across these variants.
Battery details arenāt confirmed yet for our local markets, but in parts of Europe, the Standard Range variant comes equipped with a 94.8 kWh pack, based on the 800 V architecture with 5C DC charging and a peak speed of 537 kW.
This will help get the people mover from 20% to 80% in as little as 10 minutes, and at the time of writing this article, it will be one of the fastest-charging cars in the country.
V2L up to 6 kW is also available, which would please many who want to power external devices from the large battery pack.

The Long Range variant will feature a 110-kWh battery pack with similar charging times and peak charging speeds.
More details on the local variants, specs, pricing and launch timing are expected to be announced in the coming months.
Having been in the X9 multiple times in China and Hong Kong, it will shake up the people mover market.
With the initial specs listed above, this has to be the most interesting people mover to ever hit the Australian market, and we canāt wait to get behind the wheel of it when it lands.Ā
