Tesla has just opened Australia’s second biggest EV fast charging site in the country, just in time for the busy Easter break.
A new 15-stall Tesla Supercharger site is now available for EV drivers to use at Moonee Beach, just north of Coffs Harbour, in New South Wales.
This site has Tesla’s latest V4 superchargers, all rated at 250 kW, and are open to non Tesla vehicles too as part of the joint funding arrangements with the government.
The facility also includes multiple drive-thru bays, which will make it easier for those towing a trailer who won’t need to unhitch before charging.
The opening was announced on LinkedIn by Thom Drew, Tesla’s country manager for Australia and New Zealand, who noted that the facility will be open to all CCS2 compatible vehicles.
The Moonee Beach site is on a very well traveled thoroughfare for those heading up to Queensland from NSW or heading south towards Sydney.
The current Coffs Harbour Tesla supercharger site has 6 stalls and have the previous generation V2 hardware, limited to 150 kW. A temporary 2-charger facility has also been operating nearby at the site of the Big Banana recreational facility.
Earlier this month, a new site was also opened by Tesla up in Queensland. A 6-stall site V3 supercharger site in Townsville has now been opened to both and non-Tesla EVs.
Team Lead of Net Zero Transport at the NSW Office of Energy and Climate Change, David Malicki, replied to Drew’s post and said: “Congrats Thom and Tesla. This is another fast charging station co-funded by the NSW EV Strategy!”.
Australia’s biggest site still remains in Albury, with 16 V4 stalls that were originally commissioned by Tesla in December 2023.
Although Moonee Beach supercharger has just opened, it’ll soon be relegated to being the third biggest supercharger site, thanks to the imminent opening of what will be the biggest charging site in the country, Tesla’s 20-stall facility in Goulburn.
All chargers are in the ground and construction works have nearly been completed ahead of final site commissioning.
