BYD, one of the fastest-growing car companies in the world and with a focus on electrified vehicles has announced the production of is 10 millionth “new energy vehicle” – which includes full battery electric and plug in hybrid models.
The milestone was announced at an even in China where the company’ founder, chairman and CEO, Wang Chuanfu, noted that it had taken just 30 years from inception to reach the landmark, and as it competes with Tesla for dominance in global EV markets.

Technology is the basis of courage, and engineers are the driving force of technological innovation. BYD’s 10 millionth new energy vehicle rolls off the assembly line.”
The ten millionth vehicle to roll off the production line was a black Denza Z9. Denza was a brand established as a joint venture between Mercedes Benz and BYD but is now fully owned by the Chinese company.
The Denza Z9 model was officially unveiled in April at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. It’s available with battery electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.
The battery electric version is powered by a 100 kWh BYD blade LFP battery pack, which has a CLTC range of up to 630 km. On the WLTP cycle, this will likely be closer to 500 km.
This car has 11 kW of AC charging while the DC fast charging speeds of up to 270 kW can be achieved thanks to BYD’s latest e-Platform 3.0 Evo.
The wheels are powered by a tri-motor setup with 710 kW of power and a 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, which is very quick for a 5.2-metre-long wagon.
By the end of October in Australia, BYD had delivered over 16,000 NEVs to customers in 2024. These included 12,684 EVs from a model line up that covers the Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal. The remaining cars were the recently launched Sealion 6 PHEV model.
In total, the company has delivered over 30,000 NEVs in Australia, which is pretty impressive for a brand that has been in the local market for just over 2 years.
With monthly global sales now exceeding 500,000 and the global expansion plans continuing full steam ahead, it will only be a matter of time before BYD will be producing over 5 million NEVs every year. This will likely happen in 2025.
