Australian bound EV brand Zeekr gets 5 stars for safety

Australian-bound Zeekr, an all-electric car maker, has just received the highest safety rating on two global vehicles. 

The Zeekr 001 and Zeekr X models have received 5 stars from the European NCAP safety agency. Both vehicles were on the 2024 assessment protocols which are more stringent than test protocols used for vehicles in previous years.

In a post on X, EuroNCAP shared the test results of Zeekr X SUV. The awarded results from Euro NCAP were:

• 91% for Adult Occupant protection
• 90% for Child Occupant protection
• 84% for Vulnerable Road Users protection
• 83% for Safety Assist features

This vehicle in Europe starts at a price of €44,990 which is competitive on the pricing front with the Tesla Model Y in countries like Germany.

Similarly, the Zeekr 001, classified as a “executive car” and a 5-door hatchback by EuroNCAP scored above 80% in all four categories.

Given the model’s premium features, it’s priced higher than the X. In Germany, this executive hatchback is priced from €59,990.

The vehicles were also rated highly on the Green NCAP rating system. The Green NCAP is an independent initiative, like NCAP which promotes the development of cars that are clean, energy efficient and not harmful to the environment.

Zeekr’s models received 5 stars in Green NCAP as well. The Zeekr X achieved 96% in this category while the Zeekr 001 received 95%.

On the back of this, Dr. Michiel van Ratingen who is the secretary general at EuroNCAP said: “Congratulations to ZEEKR for producing two vehicles with such good safety and overall environmental performance just as they begin their journey into the European electric vehicle market. Their vehicles show that safety and sustainability can sit alongside each other in modern cars.”

The latest test shows that both EVs from Zeekr have been designed with safety in mind and although the model lineup in Australia from the brand hasn’t been announced, its likely that one of these safe vehicles will be arriving locally in the coming months, providing more quality EV choice in the market.
