EV fast-charging network operator Evie Networks is to trial a “tap and go” payment option at five charging locations in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane before expanding it to the rest of the network.
There is a big push for simple “tap and go” systems for EV charging, and a standardised payment method, in Australia that was amplified by state and energy ministers meeting last month, and comes as they also seek to impose minimum reliability standards for government funded installations.
According to Evie Networks its first site is already up and running at Belrose Home Co in New South Wales, while four more trial locations will get underway in early 2024. These include:
- Collingwood Library VIC (coming early 2024)
- Birkdale Fair QLD (coming early 2024)
- Taylors Lakes VIC (coming early 2024)
- Allambie Grove NSW (coming early 2024)
Pricing for Tap & Go charging are as follows:
- Ultra-Fast Charging (up to 350kW) pricing is 70c per kWh + 0c per minute while charging.
- Super-Fast Charging (up to 150kW) pricing is 65c per kWh + 0c per minute while charging.
- Fast Charging (up to 50kW) pricing is 55c per kWh + 0c per minute while charging.
Payment will still be available through the Evie app, but the company hopes that the new tap and go option will allow one-time transactions for occasional or guest chargers.
