Following the unveiling of its ID.7 electric saloon earlier this year, German automotive giant Volkswagen has teased camouflaged photos of the ID.7 Tourer, an all-electric estate wagon which will launch in Europe in 2024.
Still in its pixellated “Indian summer” camouflage, the ID.7 Tourer wagon will line up next to the ID.7 sedan but will boast 545 litres of boot space even with 5 occupants. However, when the back row of seats are folded down, the volume of the almost two-metre-long cargo space expands up to 1,714 litres.
Like all models in Volkswagen’s ID. family, the new body shape of the ID.7 is based on the company’s MEB platform but with a longer wheelbase to provide for the extra cargo space.
Just like the ID.7 sedan which was officially unveiled earlier this year, the ID.7 Tourer is seriously aerodynamic, with a coefficient of drag of 0.24, compared to the 0.23 of the ID.7 sedan.
Given that with these impressive aerodynamics the ID.7 sedan is set to offer a range of up to 621 kilometres, one would expect the ID.7 Tourer to offer something similar.
The final design will be unveiled “in the coming months” and will officially launch in 2024 – though it is uncertain just what part of the year Volkswagen is targeting.
We do know that, like the ID.7, the ID.7 Tourer will be built at the Volkswagen plant in Emden. Unfortunately, Volkswagen makes no mention of plans for launching the ID.7 Tourer outside of Europe, meaning it’ll be a while before we find out if the all-electric estate wagon will ever make its way to Australia.
