Sixt, a car rental company, has announced that it will boost its EV fleet in Australian by another 500 in the next 12 months, including the the country’s third-best-selling EV in 2022, the BYD Atto 3.
This is great news as it brings more affordable EVs to the rental market while bridging the price gap between renting an EV over an ICE model.
The first BYD Atto 3s are expected to be available to hire through Sixt from mid-2023. This would allow more Australians to experience an EV, more affordably than it can today.
While announcing the new EV addition to its fleet, Sixt Australia CEO, Matthew Beattie, ran through what the vehicle can offer to local customers.
“The BYD Atto 3 is an exclusive offering with Sixt for anyone looking to rent one in Australia. They offer an uncompromising EV experience with a 400km manufacturer advertised charge range.”
“As an added bonus, one of the greatest advantages of hiring an electric vehicle through Sixt is that there is no need to stop and refuel and no charge to recharge, we’ll recharge it for you so you can get on your way,”
On the back of that, he announced the advantages of hiring an EV through Sixt which will include national charging support:
“Customers who hire any EV from Sixt can take advantage of complimentary charging with NRMA’s EV fast-charging network and the National Chargefox network throughout their hire period.”
This comes off the back of a partnership between Sixt and BYD where BYD would globally supply 100,000 electric vehicles for Sixt car rental.
As per the original announcement, the initial rollout of the deal would have seen BYD EVs as a rental vehicles in European countries of Germany, France, the Netherlands and the UK.
Since launched locally back in 2021, and has had various vehicles in its Australian fleet including Tesla and the more affordable MG brand.
