One of the frustrations for Australian EV buyers has been the reluctance of the manufacturers to rate their EV offerings for towing (despite many of them having tow ratings in other markets!).

Interestingly, BYD recently updated its listing for the Atto 3 to include a tow rating of 750kg – and owners of the Atto 3 will soon be able to buy an Australian-made tow bar to fit their new purchase.

EV Stealth Solutions is currently working with the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) and Carasel to design, manufacture and distribute a compliant towbar for the Australian and New Zealand markets.

A particular feature of their tow bar design is there is no rear-bumper cut-out, thereby maintaining the original appearance of the vehicle when the tongue is removed.

The latest news is that the prototype has just been made and fitted, with certification to follow soon.

EV Stealth Solutions plan to start fitting the first Atto 3 towbars in Sydney before Christmas and rolling out to the rest of the country in the new year. For pricing, bookings and expressions of interest, see here.

Update: One enterprising reader already has a pic from a demonstration model in Victoria and sent it in. Here it is!
