Brisbane is gearing up to hold a dedicated electric vehicle expo on the weekend, including a ‘Live Action Arena’ offering EV demonstrations and test drives.
The inaugural Electric Dreams expo will be held on July 2 and 3 at the Brisbane Showgrounds, Bowen Hills, and will showcase a range of electric cars, trucks, motorbikes and skateboards.
The event also marks the national launch of EMMA Inc, or the Electric Mobility Manufacturers Australia – an association that aims to support more homegrown manufacturing of electric vehicles in Australia.
Organisers say the expo will feature displays from US EV maker Tesla and Polestar, the all-electric Volvo offshoot whose Polestar 2 “fastback” has been one of Australia’s best selling EVs since its release late last year.
Other exhibitors on the website list include Volvo, itself, Savic Motorcycles, Lexus and the Good Car Company, which has specialised in bringing used EVs into Australia, alongside other methods of boosting EV adoption.
As noted above, the expo will also feature a Live Action Arena, with vehicle demonstrations and test drives offered in a controlled environment, out the way of spectators.
“Electric vehicles represent a new era of transport (all means of it) and is set to disrupt the industry in a similar way that smart phones have revolutionised the communication sector over the last decade,” the organisers said in a statement.
“With the price of fuel set to continue on its upward trajectory, and a keen commitment to sustainability, Australians are now ready to move away from dependence on fossil fuels.”
