Taiwan based e-mobility company Gogoro has launched its battery swapping system into mainland China in a partnership with two of China’s leading vehicle makers.
Gogoro, which has developed a smart and efficient battery swapping platform to pair with its urban electric two-wheel scooters and mopeds, said the first of its battery swapping systems had been installed in Hangzhou, in China’s far-east.
The news follows five months after Gogoro announced a partnership with Dachangjiang Group (DCJ) and Yadea to build a battery swapping network in China.
DCJ is China’s largest gas-powered two-wheel vehicle maker, and Yadea is one of the world’s largest two-wheel vehicle makers. In partnership with Gogoro, the three companies unveiled this week the Gogoro-powered Huan Huan battery swapping brand.
It is expected that Huan Huan battery swapping stations will be expanded to additional cities – and China’s two wheel market of more than 300 million riders – throughout 2022.
“Yadea, DCJ, and Gogoro have partnered to take electric two-wheel transportation in China to a new level of sustainability, reliability, and safety,” said Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro.
Gogoro’s battery swapping system was designed firstly for its own range of two-wheel vehicles – including mopeds and scooters.
Billed as “unstealable” and with smart connectivity which allows for app connectivity and over-the-air updates, Gogoro’s two-wheel vehicles can refuel simply by swapping out the battery – a task which probably takes less than 30 seconds.
Gogoro’s partnership with Yadea and DCJ will also see both Chinese two-wheel vehicle makers begin to develop their own range of two-wheel electric vehicles built around the Gogoro battery swapping platform.
Yadea has already announced two new scooters powered by Gogoro’s battery swapping technology – though, as of writing, no specifics or names are available for the two vehicles.

“With Huan Huan’s launch of Gogoro’s battery swapping system in Hangzhou, we are unveiling two new vehicles as part of a larger portfolio of Gogoro-powered vehicles,” said Dong Jinggui, chairman of Yadea. “Together, we are changing the future of green transportation in China and we are looking forward to expanding to several new cities in 2022.”
