Photo of the Day: Would you like a cupcake with your Tesla?

Tesla has revealed the secret to success: Make your electric vehicles desirable, make them available, and offer a cupcake to customers when they come to pick them up.

This photo above shows the much coveted and long awaited Model Y lined up for delivery in Sydney, which began last Friday and which extend to most capital cities this week, with to-home deliveries for those in remote areas. There are also a few Model 3s.

It’s not yet possible to know how many Model Ys are being rolled out in Australia this year, but we do know that more than 12,000 were ordered when the Model Y was finally made available in Australia in June, and Tesla chairperson Robyn Denholm has predicted Tesla deliveries will nearly double to more than 50,000 by the end of the year, Model 3s included.

This photo shows that in this sample white – which is the base colour with no added cost – is easily the most popular of the Model Ys waiting for pick up. All customers are offered a cupcake when they do so.

Not all accept. And, Tesla warns, because of the sheer number of EVs being delivered, and the lack of charging points, not all deliveries will be fully charged.
