This weekend (November 27-28) is the finale of the 2021 Targa Cup in WA at the GT Fabrication Bunbury Targa Sprint.
Jurgen Lunsmann will be driving the Gemtek Model 3 and he is currently sitting in second place in the 2021 WA Targa Cup points table, and wife and co-driver Helen equally in the Co-Drivers points, with only this event to go!
Lunsmann, who used to race V8s, commented on how different it is racing in an EV: “After 10,000 laps in a loud V8, it is nice to be able to chat now to my co-driver, my wife.
“Apart from the noise, the key differences between driving the V8 and the Tesla Model 3 Performance are: 1. In an EV you are always in the right gear for peak torque; and 2. The nature of the weight distribution — on the floor between the axles — means the car handles better than a car with a lump under the bonnet,” he said.
In 2020 Gemtek Racing’s Targa130 won outright. In the Targa 165 earlier in 2021, TOCEVA Racing’s Model 3 won outright again.
This car is the southern hemisphere’s first roll caged and log booked EV. It is powered by Jon Edwards’ “Biofil”, “Battery Buffer” and Hyundai Kona “Electron Transfer Vehicle”, and this win is the culmination of years of hard-gained learning and tireless performance of the entire TOCEVA Racing team.
Jurgen and Helen set the fastest stage time at the Langley Park Super Stage at Targa West in September. The Halifax Industrial area circuit in Bunbury is a short, sharp street racing format, suiting the Tesla’s acceleration perfectly. This will be the race to watch this weekend.
