Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn has unveiled three new electric vehicles including a passenger sedan, an SUV, and an urban bus.
Foxconn is formally known as Hon Hai Technology Group, and is the largest electronics manufacturer in the world, and maker of some of the world’s biggest-name products – including the iPhone, Amazon Kindle, and gaming systems from Nintendo, Sony Playstation, and Microsoft Xbox.
The three new vehicles were all developed by Foxtron, a joint venture between Foxconn and Taiwanese automaker Yulon Motor – who will also adopt Foxtron’s product platform for its Luxgen and CMC brands.
Foxconn expects the electric vehicle will become the “world’s largest and most expensive smart electronic device” and plans to play a key role in the development of electric vehicles.
The three new Foxconn vehicles include the Model E, a new luxury flagship sedan that Foxconn expects will be meeting the needs of middle- and high-end customers, as well as business customers.
Delivering a power output of 750hp the Model E is able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in only 2.8 seconds and has a 750-kilometre range to boot.
To appeal even more to business customers, the rear seats can transform into a dedicated mobile office, complete with personal mobile devices connected to the car’s power which, in turn, enables a series of smart applications such as face recognition to open the doors, smart windows, as well as vehicle and environment interfaces.
The Mode C SUV is the first of Foxconn’s vehicles to be built on its EV open platform and boasts acceleration of 0-100km/h in only 3.8 seconds and an extended range of 700-kilometres.
Able to seat 5 + 2 people – which would suggest the rear two seats can be folded away for increased storage space – the Model C measures in at 4.64-metres in length and a wheelbase of 2.86-metres.
Finally, and demonstrating Foxconn’s ability to utilise its huge manufacturing capabilities in a way most carmakers can only dream of, the third electric vehicle unveiled on Monday was the Model T urban bus.
Having already completed 200,000-kilometres of acceleration endurance testing and over 1,000-hours of rigid strength tests at the Automotive Research & Testing Center (ARTC), the Model T meets US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations and standards.
With a range of over 400-kilometres and a maximum speed of 120-kilometres under full-load conditions, the Model T is capable of a maximum climbing ability of 25%.
