Orders have opened for the BYD T3 electric van, a 300km (NEDC) commercial vehicle that is available via direct-to-consumer business EVDirect that is owned by Nexport.

As reported by The Driven last Tuesday, the T3 is available for just $35,000 before on-roads. It is initially available in limited numbers but more will come if the market shows interest, Nexport CEO Luke Todd told The Driven.

With a proprietary Blade battery made by Chinese battery and EV maker BYD, the 4,460mm long T3’s real world driving range will be closer to 200km.

Departure and approach angles of 20 dgerees, 5.75m turning circle are complemented by 180Nm torque and maximum 70kW power.

EVDirect says the T3’s 44.9kWh battery can charge at a maximum rate of 40kW on DC chargers with a CCS2 port, and up to 6.6kW on an AC port.

This equates to around 1.5 hours charging time on a fast charger from 0-100% and 7-8 hours on a specially installed AC charger. Charging from 0-100% on a standard powerpoint would take up to 24 hours.

EVDirect will commence deliveries in late November.
